The Writer checks over her list one more time. She has everything she needs: directions, her passport, her luggage, and his birthday gifts. All that is left is to hit the road. She looks at her laptop, then at her tablet; it feels strange not to pack either, but it's a quick trip, and she doubts she'll have time to write anyway.

She can practically hear Beth's frustrated sigh. The Writer can't really blame her—it has been a few weeks since she last opened that draft. Truth be told, the Writer is afraid to move to the next step. It feels so official, so real; it feels entirely different from her previous book.

So for now, she has moved on to editing a new collection of short stories. That has been a comforting place to be, but she knows that eventually, she needs to be brave and send Beth's story to an editor.

She shakes her head and refocuses on the fun weekend ahead. The story will be right there waiting when she is ready to be brave.
